The Great British Empire of past centuries included 57 countries, most of which generously ‘donated’ their rich mineral resources, labour and many other goods not normally available in the mother country. When Britain decolonised in the 1960s, these former British territories were grouped into the Commonwealth of Nations (aka Commonwealth). Today, some 54 of these (mostly) former British territories are members of this Club, which is a strange non-legal entity, bound by a common language.
